Run Wild

This is a small convenience store slash gas station slash liquor store slash snack shop slash movie rental slash ATM vendor located in Auke Bay, just up the hill from Statter Harbor.
The potato wedges and fried chicken are great.
As you are driving down the hill from the Back Loop Road, and as you approach this intersection (left towards Juneau and right towards Out the Road), you can clearly see the harbor, the channel, and all of the beautiful boats and mountains.
I have never been able to pull off for a minute to take a picture of the entire scene - there are no pulloffs or even a very wide shoulder in this section of the Back Loop.  But every time I get to it, about a minute before I arrive at this busy intersection I am enthralled with just how lovely it is.

Run Wild
The river full of salmon, bears all around,
Out in the wilds of Alaska, serenity is found.
Blueberries, cranberries wild everywhere;
Pure rivers, soft tundra, freshness in the air.
Walking through moose trails, bear trails and streams,
Here in the wild ... living my dreams.
A caribou stands in a bog by a creek.
You can tell he's wild, he's strong not weak.
Run wild, I say, run wild and free.
Run wild down a river and you will see
You will see the things that make you grow
You'll feel the freedom, the wildness will show
It will show in your heart, you'll feel it throughout
You'll have a feeling for wildness and what it's about.
Run wild down the rivers, run wild in the hills
Seek out the pureness, the greatness the thrills.
From bears feeding on salmon to eagles that soar,
On alaska rivers I have found this and much more.
There were ducks and beavers and beautiful blue sky
There were rapids that roared and a wolf's lonesome cry,
I am so glad there are still places like this,
Where you can feel the touch of nature's sweet kiss.

My Mountain Boy took these pictures one day last week at Auke Lake, while standing on a large rubber and metal bridge that spans the lake.
He has a strong sense of love for nature.  And he has a wonderful eye for the big picture in small treasures......
There is a restless wolf in the house.
I need to go into the mountains..........
