Mail Stealing Scumbags

Last night after work my Mountain Boy and I went down to Statter Harbor in Auke Bay.  We both needed to wind down, and even though it was cold, windy and raining, we walked along the piers and took pictures of the boats.
This yacht was nothing short of amazing - it was huge, shiny, a stand-out boat among a harbor of many stand-out boats.
It had a crew that was busily cleaning and spiffing up the boat (and the skiff that they hoisted on a crane up and into the hull of the boat after cleaning it) all the while that we were walking.
Above is the front view of the boat, and below is the back view of this same boat.
To have that kind of money.....
A few more very large and expensive boats - not as large and fancy as the Blue Moon, but definately in a league separate and apart from the others in this harbor.
My favorite boat of the day.......
Some other lower-key boats that I thought were interesting yesterday........
This little crab plaque was attached to one of the boats along the pier....
These pictures were taken at an overlook on the way home.  I stop here, and an overlook another 1/4 mile down the road very often.
When I stop here things make sense to me.
It always looks different here depending on the weather and the time of day, but it is always beautiful.....
Taken at Raycos' Gun Shop in Mendenhall Valley this afternoon.  One of LC's favorite places in town.  No gun purchases today - just a couple of rain suits......
I was wound pretty tight tonight after work, and needed to be outside for a while before heading home.
LC and Jamie and I walked along the beach at Auke Village Recreation Area not too far from the house.
It had rained hard all day (a good thing because we need to get water into the water storage tanks we use at the house), and after buying the rain jackets we went out to the beach expecting to get wet and cold, but not caring.
Surprisingly it was a nice early evening.  The rain stopped, and for a beautiful short while the sun partially came out.
We talked with a nice man walking his little pug dog, who has lived in Juneau for 37 years.  A friendly, intelligent man who struck up an easy conversation with us while we were sitting on a log looking out over the water.
And then we walked in the sand, watched the boats in the channel speeding towards home before the rain (that we could see in bands moving towards us) arrived again, and followed the antics of one lone sea otter playing in the water close to shore
A ferry coming into the terminal.......
Yet one more pretty little green bush filled with pretty little red berries.  I have no idea what kind of bush this is.
Does the sun ever come out in Juneau?
Yes sometimes.  Briefly.  Beautifully.  And then it is gone.......
By the time we left the beach to head home it was beginning to rain again.
James the Wonder Dog.......
On the way home it had already stopped raining and the sun was struggling to come out again.
We stopped at an overlook close to the house because I had told LC that if the sun was shining we were stopping.  As good as my word I pulled over to stop and look out over the channel......
While we were standing and enjoying the very beautiful view LC looked down at a bunch of papers that were littering the grass on the other side of the guard rail.
He looked up at me and told me that the papers had my name on them.
We looked at the papers more closely and I found myself looking at my bank statements and retirement savings plan account statements.
We looked more closely, and there were magazines and catalogues belonging to people from two other addresses.
Someone had raided mailboxes (including ours), rifled through them at the overlook, and then disposed of them in the grass.
We called the police and gave a statement.  Left a note for the people who's address was next doors to ours.  Tomorrow we will take it all down to the post office so the Post Master can do his investigation, after we stop by the third person's address and give them a heads up on what happened.
We also told another one of our neighbors, who is the "point man" for the neighborhood and who keeps tabs on all the comings and goings around the area.
Apparently this type of thing happens once in a while.
One last look at a view of the boats down at Statter Harbor in Auke Bay.
