More pictures of my boy fishing on a sunny day Out the Road.....
Chris smiles easily and readily. And I love to see it.........
Chris was bringing in another fish when these two young people first stopped to watch, and then approached my son.
It turns out that they were marine biologists, who watched the boy with interest while he was pulling in another fish, and then gave him tips of how to clean the fish out...........
I was working at the time so LC took the pictures and told me of the marine biologists.
My first thought was of the TV comedy Seinfeld - the one where George was trying to impress a girl by lying and telling her that he was a marine biologist.
Kramer, while driving golf balls into the bay, accidentally impacted with a whale and (of course) blocked a whales blow-hole with one of the balls.
The whale became beached, and as a crowd grew on the shore someone called out "is anyone a marine biologist?"
And the story just got crazier from there.
Classic stuff.
I tried to get my sons to watch Seinfeld when it first came out but they were too young for it, did not get any of the jokes and quickly lost interest in the show.
A few years later they started watching it in reruns and loved it as much as I did.........
The Alaska Marine Highway Ferries are beautiful and majestic passenger ferries that dot the water constantly.
I have stood at the ferry terminal and on beaches, and sat on rocks and on picnic tables many many times over these past eight months watching them quietly pass by.......
A very beautiful bird (a heron?) standing by the entrance to a stream waiting his turn, among the multitudes of seagulls and eagles, to grab hold of a salmon at Lena Beach.
With such a large cove we were surprised to see the water bubble along the wide open shoreline with large numbers of salmon.
We were surprised until we continued walking along the beach and found the stream and fish pass.......
The stream contained a number of salmon.
Some of them were resting, nestled in among the rocks.
Many others (both close to the cove and much further up close to the fish pass) after working hard to get up so far, eventually just got swept back into the cove by the strong current..........
The strong current has carved a strong and well-defined channel into the sand.........
A close-up view of one of the steps on the fish pass.
There is enough room for the salmon to rest between jumps up the pass.......
I have seen this fish pass a number of times but never really paid attention to it until today.
It is highly interesting and really beautiful.....
As we walked closer and closer to the stream we scared away both the eagles and seagulls that were feasting hungrily on salmon.
But this calm wonderful creature did not seem fazed by us.
We kept our distance from him so we could enjoy him for as long as possible........
