Anything You Dream

The last couple of days have really gotten away from me.
A combination of helping a new full-time employee get off to a good start, very cold days and very short days have meant that there has been no time at all to stop for even a few stolen moments to take any decent pictures.
Which to me feels like a real loss because Juneau right now looks like all the postcards that people think of when they think of Alaska.
The past few days have been the coldest of any days I have experienced since arriving in Juneau early in January.
Yesterday the combination of strong and freezing arctic winds and cold air temperatures compelled me to do nothing more than travel as quickly as possible from one meeting to another and to rush inside buildings to warm up as quickly as possible.
I actually got home at a decent hour last night but could not bring myself to head outside again and walk my hysterically happy and excited dog.
It was dark and just too damned cold.
Snow is now covering everything.  The mountains and trees, the hills and shores, the highway Out the Road once you get past Auke Bay.
Eaglecrest Ski Resort opens this weekend, but I believe that this newbie downhill skier will probably wait for just a while.
The pictures immediately above and below were taken mid-afternoon today just prior to a meeting, in a rush with two minutes to spare.  All kinds of time...........

I had planned on taking my new employee to a number of different places around Juneau today, but that plan never materialized - both of us getting caught up in other plans on the fly.
I also had intentions of taking him for a quick trip to Mendenhall Glacier either before or after the meetings we had scheduled together in the Valley, but that also got sidetracked with other issues.
Which is OK - he'll find it soon enough...........
By the time we were done with both of our meetings this afternoon this is what the day looked like..........
LC is now holed up at an inn just outside of Bellingham.
He was very lucky with the weather coming across country, and seemed to continually find the "safe zone" in the winter storms.
While they were raging both in front and behind him somehow this man found the middle ground and made it through without incident.
He is safe and healthy, and for the first time told me the other day that he is looking forward to coming home.......
