By late Saturday evening LC and I were exhausted.
And elated.
We had spent a good part of the day exploring museums.
The Buffalo Bill Center of the West and Old Trail Town were both open to the public.
Admission was free (the only day of the year that they have free entry) in celebration of the holiday season.
It is their annual gift to the locals who call this place home.
We had both visited Old Trail Town once when we were last in Cody and were looking forward to heading there again in the evening, to see the outdoor museum decorated for Christmas.
But neither of us had ever been to the BBCW.
Entry is not cheap and so we had always found reasons not to go.
But on THIS day, we had no excuse to stay away from a facility that houses five different museums under one roof.
We didn't get to see it all.
The facility was just too expansive. There was just too much to see in a packed few hours.
The first museum we visited at BBCW was the Cody Firearms Museum.
In a town of 9500 people sits a museum housing the largest collection of American firearms in the world.
You would have to see this facility to actually believe it.
As a strong gun lover and advocate (which LC is) and as a virtual walking encyclopedia of gun knowledge (which LC also is) he was completely enthralled with this place.
Walking through the lobby and heading towards the gun museum..............
I'm not going to write any more about this place.
The link provides information and the pictures tell the tale.
Every gun, by every gun manufacturer, going back to Day One.
Thousands of guns.
Utilitarian guns, embellished guns, presidential guns, guns in war, guns in hunting, guns in taming the west, guns in movies, gun history, gun production, gun marketing, gun ammunition, and so much more.
Click on any picture and they will all enlarge into a slide show.
I took hundreds of pictures and we still ended up skipping one entire floor of the gun museum.
These are some of the pictures I power snapped in one gun-filled two hour visit...............
